Steps, advice, dos & don'ts, tutorials and everything you need to know, from daytime to dramatic, for sexy and wearable smokey eyes to drive them crazy!
Smokey Eyes is definitely not a seasonal trend
It’s sexy, it’s flexible and so easy. However, although we should play more with it, most of us either think it should be heavy and thus, not for daytime and office hours or that the color pallet is only restricted to really dark shades.Well, I have news for you ladies!
Smokey eyes should not always be heavy or dark let alone only black or dark shades of grey!
It comes also in all shades of green, purple, blue… you name it! I’ve also seen it in pink!
So, let’s get the basics once more:
Smokey Eyes is a makeup style for your eyes, or better, how you apply makeup on your eyes.
It has nothing to do with what you apply or which color; it only has to do with how you apply it.
So, let’s first look at what you will need for this amazing look:
- Preparation. Clean your eyes, apply moisturizer, let it absorb and continue with foundation, concealer and face powder.
- Tools. A small eyeshadow brush, a lipstick brush and your fingers
- Makeup. White eyeshadow, your favorite eyeshadow color in two different shades, a cohl pencil of the same color and your mascara
Some tips before we start:
- If your pencil liner is too soft it will be applied easier and blend better but in time, it will melt and may make your eyes tingling or burn (although here's the solution to fix smokey eyes). The softer the pencil the more the oils it contains and so, the more it may cause discomfort.
- If you don’t want to overdo it with smokey eyes in daytime or the office, there is a safe way. Use your everyday eye shadows for the darkest part of smokey eyes and two lighter shades of the same color in order to create the smokey eye effect!
- There are many types of smokey eyes. Glitter, metallic, matte, etc. You may use any type of makeup you like as long as you follow the general rule of how to apply the different shades of eye shadows for this special style of makeup.
Are you ready?
See this brief tutorial or read below the detailed instructions:
- Take the white shadow and apply it on your upper eye lid. It will highlight your eyes and help the eye shadow colors show and blend better.
- With 2 mental lines divide your upper eye lid in three areas. The first one close to your eyelashes, the second to the middle of your lid, and the third right under your eyebrow line
- The smokey eyes rule of thumb is this: the darker eye shadow should go closer to your lashes and blend blend blend!
- Now, apply your 2 different shades of eyeshadow in those areas using the lighter one under your brows and the darker right below. Blend them until no limits are visible between the two shades
- Take your liner and fill the third area by drawing a thick line right on your upper eyelid as close as possible to the roots of your lashes
- Using your lipstick brush blend gently your liner with the darker eyeshadow until there is no visible limit between the two areas
- Take your liner and draw a line under your eyes and apply a thin layer of the darker eyeshadow underneath it. Use the small brush to blend them too
- Finish your smokey eyes look with your favorite mascara!
