How Much Do You Know About Hair Extensions? Enjoy Instant Length And Fullness!

Learn the available types and which you can apply yourself! Find out the procedures, how long they last and what will fit you best for instant long and full hair!

There are two main categories that will help you clarify the numerous different types of hair extensions.

Everything will be easy if you separate hair extensions according to the type of hair used or better, the material it is made of and the attachment method it uses. So let us say a few important things to consider before you pick the one for you.

You may hear a lot about the materials each brand and type uses. The main categories though, considering the type of hair used, are natural and artificial hair, always depending on the attachment type.

My opinion is to choose the attachment method first, and then consider the quality according to the cost and how permanent you wish your new look to be.

Hair Extensions Attachment Methods

Microbead Extensions

They are also known as Micro Loop as this type of extensions is looped through your hair and then, with the use of pliers and a metal bead it is clamped on to it.

They are long lasting and you may color them, brush and treat like your own but they can also be damaging due to the clamping of your hair on the metal bead.

Heat Fusion Extensions

In this type, your hair extensions are attached to your hair with the help of various adhesives such as wax, keratin or glue. The adhesive has to be heated and then attached to your hair.

This is somewhat permanent unless of course, you don’t use a quality adhesive that will melt with blow drying, boiling rollers or even going out in the sun. Be careful of wax, it is the less reliable adhesive as it has a low melting point.

You can take it out by using a special adhesive remover but depending on the use and your hair’s condition, mind you, this type will do some damage to your hair.

Cold Fusion Extensions

For this type of extensions you need a professional because although it is similar to the heat fusion extensions, it takes an ultrasound to make the bond to your hair.

This type can last up to 6 months and it is rapidly gaining ground because the absence of heat makes less damage to the hair.

Skin Weft Extensions
These are flat, long and wide extensions that you can glue (they come with a tape or glue) to the top of your hair, as close to the roots as possible.

It is very easy to apply them yourself. If you match the exact color and you place each extension correctly, this type can show like natural hair!

Clip-in Extensions
This is the oldest and most popular type because it is an easy and temporary way to have instant fullness and length in your hair. You don't need anyone's help to apply it.

Attach the clip on your hair to add highlights, volume or give length. Put it on and off as many times as you like and try different styles, lengths and colors without harming your hair at all!

Weaves Extensions
Strands from your hair are sewn on braided extensions of natural hair. Easy, you can do it yourself or with the help of a friend but it is difficult to wash your hair often or dry it and you can’t brush it. Though the extensions are visible, it is a popular and fashionable hairstyle.

Which Is The One For You?

Before deciding the color, length and look, maybe you should consider a few more things about your dream hair extensions.

And I don’t only mean the cost or whether you will be able to apply them yourself or with the help of a professional.

I mean about how long you need them to last and what is the condition of your natural hair. If your hair is damaged then maybe you should first consider a treatment or the less damaging hair extension methods for your hair.

In any case, enjoy your new look and what's more, without the years of waiting for your hair to grow that long!
