If you think about it, hair gel is among the first beauty products that can save you from chemicals because it’s is so easy and costless to make.

Even if you don’t read the recipes I’m sure you can think of many ways yourself to make hair gel. For example, think of lemon, gelatin or even sugar!

Hair gel has just to be colorless and sticky. Dilute with water and you adjust how strong it is. Seriously, that’s it!

Of course, other people experiments can save you time and give you a more ‘’professional’’ recipe that can last longer and will best fit your hair type.

Let’s see the 3 most known and effective diy hair gel recipes:


Lemon hair gel




Ingredients:

  • 4 Tablespoons of lemon juice (fresh and strained)
  • 2 Tablespoons of gelatin
  • 2 cups of water

Method:

  • Heat the water a little and add the gelatin
  • Stir the gelatin until it completely dissolves and remove from the fire
  • Add lemon juice and stir again
  • Let it stand until it becomes a gel
  • Put in (new or old product) airtight containers

Keep in room temperature for 8 days or in the fridge for 3 weeks.


Gelatin hair gel



Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon gelatin (strong hold)
  • ½ cup lukewarm water

Method:

  • Actually, you just mix the ingredients and stir well until the gelatin is dissolved.
  • Wait until the mixture becomes gel and put in (new or old product) airtight containers

Keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.


Flax seeds hair gel




Ingredients:

  • ½ cup flaxseeds (or less if you want a normal hold)
  • 2 cups water

Method:

  • Put the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil on low/medium heat
  • Start stirring until the water becomes like a frothy white sirup.
  • Remove it from fire and continue stirring for a minute or two while it simmers
  • Strain the mixture from flax seeds and let the liquid stand until it cools
  • Put in (new or old product) airtight containers
  • Place the used flax seeds in the fridge you can use them again for a time or two!

Keep in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.


Extra tips



  • In all recipes you can still experiment with the ingredients adding more or less to make your gel for normal to strong hold.
  • You may add a few drops of essential oils for scent.
  • You may also add a few drops of jojoba oil or coconut oil to add conditioning value to your hair gel.
  • You may also use squeeze bottles to put your gel because the more you keep your hands out of it the more it lasts.
